Founder & Design Principal, Material Differences

With more than 35 years of experience, Jennie Curtis approaches interior design as a dialogue between architecture, light, material, and the way we live. As Founder and Design Principal of Material Differences, she creates sophisticated, deeply personal homes that balance beauty, comfort, and a quiet sense of harmony and belonging.

Her practice has evolved into a highly integrated approach to mindful architectural design, with a particular focus on custom homes built from the ground up. Working closely with clients, architects, and builders from the earliest plans through completion, Jennie translates a client’s vision into a cohesive interior—encompassing fixtures and finishes, millwork, flooring, furniture and rug plans, lighting, window treatments, upholstery, and bedding.

Jennie believes a home should support both the way we live and the way we feel. Influenced by Feng Shui, she considers the flow and energy of a space, incorporating natural fibers, organic textures, and durable finishes that support well-being. Light is central to her work, with ambient lighting shaping the warmth and mood of each room. Her thoughtful layering of color, texture, art, antiques, and contemporary pieces creates interiors that feel collected, inviting, and timeless.

Jennie’s relationship with her clients often extends well beyond a single project. She has been fortunate to travel throughout the United States with clients as they create new homes and chapters in new places, continuing to work with them as they make each new place feel like home. She values these lasting relationships and the opportunity to understand what each client loves and what makes a home feel truly their own.

An Allied Member of ASID, Jennie leads Material Differences with an emphasis on exceptional craftsmanship, sustainable strategies, and highly personal service. Her enduring love of architecture, art, antiques, travel, gardens, and the beauty of everyday life continues to inform her work.

For Jennie, design is not about creating a style. It is about creating a sense of belonging—a home that feels beautiful, balanced, restorative, and deeply personal.
